Google Maps Direction Mishap: SUV Takes Unintended Staircase Route in Gudalur, Tamil Nadu

In a peculiar incident, an SUV driver relying on Google Maps for navigation encountered an unexpected obstacle when his vehicle ended up stuck on a flight of stairs in Gudalur, a hill town in Tamil Nadu. The incident unfolded as the driver, accompanied by friends, was returning from Gudalur to Karnataka after spending the weekend in the town, known for its popularity among tourists heading to Ooty.

Gudalur, located at the tri-junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, is a common holiday destination for those seeking picturesque landscapes and a serene atmosphere.

The mishap occurred as Google Maps directed the driver through the Police quarters, claiming it to be the ‘fastest route.’ However, this route led them to a steep flight of stairs in a residential area, leaving the SUV stranded with no way to proceed.

Prompted by the unexpected detour, the driver sought assistance, and residents along with local police came to the rescue. Together, they maneuvered the SUV back to the main road, allowing the group to continue their journey back to Karnataka.

While the incident had a relatively positive outcome, it sheds light on the potential flaws in mapping applications and the importance of users exercising caution, especially in unfamiliar terrains.
