In a significant development for India’s aviation sector, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted approval for FLY91, a Goa-based regional airline, to commence commercial operations. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia virtually inaugurated the airline, paving the way for its maiden commercial flights starting March 18. The airline plans to enhance air connectivity in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, with direct flights from Goa to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and a new route to Lakshadweep’s Agatti Island from mid-April.
Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurates FLY91 Airlines’ Commercial Services:
FLY91, under the leadership of Managing Director and CEO Manoj Chacko, claims to be the “world’s most well-capitalized regional carrier.” The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the airline its air operator permit on March 6, allowing it to embark on commercial operations. The initial fleet comprises two 70-seater ATR 72-600 aircraft, with plans to expand to a total of six within the next six months.
The airline has successfully raised $25 million in capital, earmarked for fleet expansion and service improvement. CEO Manoj Chacko envisions a fleet of 35 aircraft within the next five years, connecting 50 cities across India. FLY91 proudly establishes its home base at Goa’s Manohar International Airport, a noteworthy distinction in the Indian aviation landscape.
FLY91’s commercial operations will kick off on March 18, with direct flights from Goa to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Additionally, the airline plans to connect Sindhudurg from Bengaluru and Hyderabad, offering improved connectivity to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The ambitious expansion continues with the introduction of direct flights from Goa to Lakshadweep’s Agatti Island, starting mid-April. This route addresses a critical gap in connectivity, as Alliance Air currently operates the sole flight route to Lakshadweep from Kochi to Agatti.
