FASTag Users Alert: NHAI Sets February 29 Deadline for KYC Update to Avoid Deactivation

In a recent development, FASTag users have been reminded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete their KYC (Know Your Customer) update by February 29, 2024, to prevent potential account deactivation. NHAI has introduced the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple cars or associating multiple FASTags with a single vehicle.

The NHAI is urging users to update their FASTag information before the deadline to ensure a seamless toll payment experience on national highways. Failure to update KYC by the specified date may result in account blocking or termination, hindering users from using FASTag at toll plazas and causing unnecessary delays during travel.

Banks may take strict actions, including deactivation or blacklisting of accounts, for non-compliance with the KYC update process. This emphasizes the critical need for users to adhere to the deadline set by NHAI.

To facilitate the KYC update process, users can follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit IHMCL Customer Portal for FASTag updates.
  2. Sign in using the registered mobile number, password, and OTP for verification.
  3. Access the profile by selecting “My Profile” from the dashboard menu.
  4. Check the KYC status and provided information on the profile page.
  5. If necessary, refresh the KYC following the website’s instructions to complete the process.

NHAI has clarified that the initiative aims to deter the misuse of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle. Users are encouraged to comply with RBI guidelines by updating their KYC to maintain the security and effectiveness of the FASTag system.

With over eight crore users and a remarkable penetration rate of approximately 98%, FASTag has significantly transformed the nation’s electronic toll collection system.
