FASTag Relief: NHAI Grants Extension for e-KYC Update, Double Toll Awaits Unregistered Commuters

In a recent development, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has offered a lifeline to commuters who have not yet updated the ‘e-KYC’ of their ‘FASTag’. The deadline for this crucial update has been extended until February 29, providing additional time for drivers to ensure compliance with the mandatory requirement.

Failure to update the ‘e-KYC’ for ‘FASTag’ will result in the deactivation of the electronic toll collection device, compelling motorists to pay double the toll charges. As of now, approximately 50 percent of drivers in Pune city and district have successfully completed the ‘e-KYC’ process for their ‘FASTag’.

The mandatory update involves linking ‘FASTag’ with both the PAN card and Aadhaar card. This measure was implemented nationwide for four-wheelers on February 15, 2021, with the primary aim of alleviating congestion at toll booths and expediting the toll collection process.

To verify the status of their ‘e-KYC’ update, individuals can log in to fastag.ihmcl.com. After entering the registered mobile number, password, or OTP, users can navigate to the dashboard, click on ‘My Profile,’ and provide the necessary and accurate information. This will confirm whether their ‘e-KYC’ has been successfully updated or not.

Here is a step-by-step guide for the ‘FASTag’ ‘e-KYC’ update:

  1. Visit the FASTag website
  2. Enter the registered mobile number
  3. Input the password or OTP
  4. Navigate to ‘My Profile’ and click on the KYC tab
  5. Complete the ‘e-KYC’ process by filling in the required address and other relevant information

The necessary documents for the ‘e-KYC’ update include the Vehicle Registration Certificate, a passport-sized photo, and any one of the following: Driving License, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, or Voter Card.

As the deadline approaches, motorists are urged to promptly update their ‘FASTag’ ‘e-KYC’ to avoid inconvenience and the imposition of double toll charges.
