Farmers’ Protest March Causes Traffic Concerns in Delhi-NCR

In a move to voice their demands, farmers in Uttar Pradesh are set to march towards Delhi, converging at the Mahamaya flyover before proceeding to the capital city. As the march gains momentum, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory, anticipating potential congestion on the roads from Noida-Ghaziabad to Delhi on Thursday morning.

The advisory, shared on Twitter, highlights the expected heavy traffic on routes connected to Sonia Vihar, DND, Chilla, Ghazipur, Sabhapur, Apsara, and Loni border on February 8, 2024. Commuters are cautioned to either postpone their travel plans or carefully plan their routes to avoid disruptions.

The movement of farmers towards Delhi has the potential to cause traffic jams on the expressway and roads leading to the city. In anticipation of possible unrest, Section 144 will be enforced in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, allowing police action against unauthorized gatherings or disturbances to public peace.

To manage the expected traffic in Noida, a diversion plan has been put in place. Farmers will gather near the Mahamaya flyover and commence their march towards Delhi. Commuters heading towards Botanical Garden are advised to take the Sector-94 Charkha roundabout route, proceeding towards New Ashok Nagar.

If farmers move towards Chilla, traffic will be diverted from the DND route. Conversely, if they head towards DND, traffic will pass through the Chilla border. Additionally, traffic on Udyog Marg between Sector-1 Gol Chakkar and Jhundpura will be temporarily stopped, with an alternate route provided via the Rajnigandha intersection.
