Farmers’ Protest Enters Fifth Day, Toll Plaza Seized in Delhi-Fazilka; Vehicles Pass Without Payment Slip

In a striking development, the farmers’ protest in Punjab has reached its fifth consecutive day, gaining momentum as the United Kisan Morcha organized a demonstration at the toll plaza on the Delhi-Fazilka National Highway in Mahuana. Simultaneously, the toll plaza in village Vading on the Muktsar-Kotkapura road has been forcibly shut down by the agitating farmers. The protest is set to persist until 6 pm on Sunday.

This ongoing demonstration is part of the larger Delhi Chalo movement, where farmers are rallying against the policies of the Central government. Despite three rounds of discussions in Chandigarh, the Union Minister’s silence on key farmer demands has fueled the persistence of the strike.

On Saturday, the toll plaza demonstration took an unprecedented turn as all vehicles passing through were allowed to do so without payment slips. This bold move has resulted in substantial financial losses for the toll company, with estimates reaching lakhs of rupees. The farmers, in their determined stand, have signaled their readiness to intensify their protests until their grievances are acknowledged and addressed.

As the protests continue, the situation remains tense, and the impact on transportation and commerce in the region is becoming increasingly apparent. The farmers’ resolute stand reflects their determination to secure their rights and ensure that their concerns are not overlooked by the authorities.
