Exam Gaffe: Bengaluru Nursing Students Surpass Maximum Marks in Unforeseen Glitch

Bengaluru, March 9, 2024 – In a surprising turn of events, nursing students at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Bengaluru discovered they had scored more than the maximum marks during the second-semester examination of B.Sc Nursing held in January. The error, caused by a miscalculation in including internal assessment marks for a subsidiary subject, led to some students receiving scores of 310 and 315 out of a possible 300 marks.

Upon uncovering this discrepancy, the university promptly withdrew the erroneous results and issued corrected marks. While the adjustment affected the total marks for some students, RGUHS registrar (evaluation), Riyaz Basha clarified that the grading and pass/fail status remained unaffected.

The unexpected situation arose as RGUHS transitioned from an annual to a semester system, causing additional discrepancies that required attention. Basha assured students and stakeholders that the university had taken necessary measures to rectify these issues and ensure accurate evaluation moving forward.

The incident has sparked discussions among educators and students alike, emphasizing the importance of robust systems and checks in the examination process. RGUHS officials are now conducting a thorough review of their assessment protocols to prevent similar errors in the future.

While the affected students may have experienced a brief rollercoaster of emotions, the university’s commitment to transparency and rectification has been praised. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance in academic institutions to maintain the integrity of examination results.
