Empowering the Future: EC’s ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ Initiative on Electoral Education

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Election Commission (EC) of India is set to harness the popularity of ‘Chacha Chaudhary,’ the beloved comic character created by renowned cartoonist Pran, to educate children about the electoral process and elections. With impending Assembly elections in states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana later this year, the apex electoral body has unveiled two comic books that feature iconic comic characters such as Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Raaka, Dhamaka Singh, and Billoo. These comics aim to raise awareness among children about the significance of voting and the electoral process.

The Election Commission of India introduced the initiative with the release of a unique comic book titled ‘Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal,’ published by Pran Comics. This move marks a bold step in making election education more accessible and engaging for the younger generation.

“The likes of Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu, Raaka, Dhamaka Singh, Billoo, and other comic characters will now be employed to educate children about elections. A unique comic book titled ‘Chacha Chaudhary aur Chunavi Dangal,’ published by Pran Comics, was introduced by the Commission today,” stated the Election Commission of India.

As part of this initiative, the Commission has announced the distribution of 30,000 free copies of the comic book, which will also be made available digitally for children to access conveniently.

“Chacha Chaudhary ka dimag computer se tez chalta hai (Chacha Chaudhary’s brain works faster than a computer),” and now his remarkable intellect will be harnessed by the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) division of the ECI. The SVEEP division serves as the flagship program of the Election Commission of India for voter education, spreading voter awareness, and promoting voter literacy in the country.

In line with this initiative, 30,000 copies of the comic book will be distributed for free, ensuring that thousands of children can access them digitally. The comic features ten short stories that revolve around various aspects of the electoral process, making learning about elections an engaging and enjoyable experience for young minds.

With the impending Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for 2024, the Election Commission’s innovative approach seeks to foster a sense of responsibility and awareness about the democratic process from a young age, ultimately shaping informed and responsible citizens of the future.
