Empowering Homes: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Launches Solar Rooftop Scheme with Subsidies

In a bid to encourage clean and cost-effective energy solutions, the Department of Posts has initiated a sign-up drive for the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme aims to support up to one crore households across India in installing solar panels on their rooftops, providing both environmental benefits and financial assistance.

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Overview:

The scheme offers free electricity to homes that install solar power systems on their rooftops, with participating households eligible to receive 300 units of free power each month. Additionally, the initiative provides substantial subsidies based on the capacity of the installed solar system.

Subsidy Breakdown:

  • Rs 30,000 subsidy for a 1 kW system
  • Rs 60,000 subsidy for 2 kW systems
  • Rs 78,000 subsidy for 3 kW systems or higher

Low-Interest Loan Options:

The scheme further offers low-interest loans at around 7%, allowing households to finance solar panel installations up to 3 kW without the need for collateral.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:

  1. Register on the official portal, providing necessary details such as state, electricity company, consumer number, mobile number, and email.
  2. Log in using the consumer number and mobile number to fill out the Rooftop Solar application form.
  3. Upon receiving feasibility approval, proceed with the installation of the solar plant by engaging a registered vendor in your DISCOM.
  4. After installation, submit plant details and apply for a net meter.
  5. The portal will generate a commissioning certificate post-net meter installation and DISCOM inspection.
  6. Once the commissioning report is received, submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal, expecting the subsidy to be credited within 30 days.

As the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana opens its doors for registrations, it presents an opportunity for households to embrace sustainable energy solutions while benefiting from financial support.
