Delhi’s Air Quality Improves to ‘Moderate’ at AQI 197 as IMD Predicts Light Rainfall

Delhi, known for its fluctuating air quality, witnessed a welcome improvement in its Air Quality Index (AQI), dropping to 197 in the ‘moderate’ category at 8 am on Monday. This positive shift comes after the city experienced an AQI of 260 during the weekend, accompanied by temperatures slightly above the seasonal average. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) offers a glimmer of hope for Delhi’s residents, forecasting light rainfall and thundershowers on Monday and Tuesday. However, the remainder of the week is expected to remain dry.

Rain Brings Relief to Delhi’s AQI

The city’s residents can breathe a sigh of relief with the promise of light rain and thundershowers in the forecast. Such precipitation not only provides respite from the persistent air pollution but also plays a vital role in purifying the atmosphere. The recent drop in AQI is a positive sign that the national capital may experience temporary relief from its ongoing air quality concerns.

Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR

In an unrelated event, Delhi-NCR experienced mild tremors on a quiet Sunday afternoon. A 3.1 magnitude earthquake originating from Faridabad sent ripples throughout the region at approximately 4:08 pm. The National Centre of Seismology pinpointed the earthquake’s epicenter just 9 kilometers east of Faridabad.

Delhi LG Addresses Crop Residue Burning

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, took a proactive step to address environmental concerns by reaching out to the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab, Manohar Lal Khattar and Bhagwant Mann, respectively. In his communication, he underscored the distressing consequences of crop residue burning and its detrimental impact on pollution levels in the National Capital Region. LG Saxena urged both Chief Ministers to harness all available resources to combat this issue, reassuring them of Delhi’s commitment to doing its part.
