Deadline Approaching: Update Your Aadhaar Details Now or Pay the Price

In a crucial announcement, the government has set the final deadline for updating Aadhaar details as March 14, 2024, with a fee applicable for those who miss the cutoff. The earlier extension, granted in December 2023, gave citizens an additional three months for free Aadhaar updating services. This marks the last opportunity to make necessary updates without incurring charges.

Failure to update Aadhaar details before the deadline will result in a fee, emphasizing the need for individuals to take advantage of the remaining period without facing additional costs. This move aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline administrative procedures and facilitate citizen updates to key Aadhaar details.

It is important to note that the deadline extension to March 14, 2024, will be the final one, with no reported plans for further extensions. The updates can include demographic details such as name, address, and mobile number. However, for biometric updates, individuals must visit the nearest Aadhaar center.

To update Aadhaar details without incurring charges, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the official Aadhaar website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number and the security code.
  3. Click on the “Send OTP” option and enter the code received on your registered mobile number.
  4. Choose the “Update Demographics Data” option.
  5. Select the details to update, such as name and address.
  6. Fill in the required changes and upload necessary documents.
  7. Review details carefully and submit the request to update.

The Unique Identification Authority of India website emphasizes that Aadhaar provides single-source offline and online identity verification throughout India. After enrollment, individuals can use their Aadhaar number for authentication, establishing their identity electronically or through offline verification.

Aadhaar’s nationwide portability allows authentication anywhere online, a crucial feature for the millions of Indians who migrate between states or from rural to urban areas. The Aadhaar number is a random and intelligence-free identifier, requiring minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrollment process, excluding details such as caste, religion, income, health, and geography.
