Cadbury Responds to Concerns After Fungus Found on Chocolate in Hyderabad

A recent incident involving the discovery of fungus on a Cadbury chocolate by a resident of Hyderabad has raised eyebrows and ignited concern among consumers, despite the product being well within its expiration date.

The individual, who made the purchase in Hyderabad, was taken aback to find fungus covering the chocolate upon opening the packet.

Photos of the contaminated chocolate swiftly made rounds on social media platforms, prompting others to share similar experiences with Cadbury chocolates and advising the consumer to seek recourse through legal channels such as the consumer court.

The complaint, posted on April 27 on the microblogging platform X, has garnered significant attention, accumulating over six lakh views and still rising. Many users have reshared the post, offering their perspectives and comments.

Reactions to the Post:

  • “Did they contact to find the batch number or just ignored?” queried an X user. The complainant responded, indicating that the company had “ignored” their attempts.
  • Another user noted, “The shelf life of chocolate is 15 days.”
  • A third user advised caution, suggesting people should “avoid eating chocolates” due to similar incidents in the past.

The images shared by the Hyderabad resident depict fungus growth on chocolates manufactured in January 2024, well before their expiration date. Furthermore, one of the chocolates exhibited a noticeable hole at the back.

In response to the viral post, Cadbury issued a statement expressing regret over the “unpleasant experience” and reassured consumers that their products undergo stringent quality checks to ensure they are free from any physical, chemical, or microbiological issues.

Cadbury clarified that the manufacturing date of the affected Dairy Milk chocolates was in January 2024, with a shelf life of 12 months from manufacture. Despite their attempts to reach out to the customer, the company stated that they had not received a response.
