BMTC Conductor Suspended for Assaulting Female Passenger in Bengaluru Bus

Video Footage Sparks Outrage and Swift Action from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation

In a disturbing incident captured on camera, a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) conductor was suspended after a video of him assaulting a female passenger surfaced on social media. The altercation, which took place in the Jayanagar East area of Bengaluru, led to immediate action from BMTC authorities.

The confrontation erupted during a bus journey from Bilekalli to Shivajinagar when the woman passenger engaged in a dispute with the conductor over a ticket-related issue. The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, with both parties exchanging slaps.

Prompted by the woman’s complaint, BMTC swiftly suspended the conductor, identified as Honnappa Nagappa Agasar. The corporation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of women passengers and outlined various measures in place to enhance security on buses, including CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and gender sensitization training for staff.

While acknowledging the complexity of the situation, some social media users noted that the woman initiated physical contact by slapping the conductor first during the argument. Nevertheless, BMTC emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards violence or misconduct directed at passengers, particularly women, and reiterated its determination to take strict disciplinary action against any offenders.
