Bharat Rice Goes Digital: Central Government’s Premium Offering Now Available Online

The highly anticipated ‘Bharat Rice,’ a premium quality rice introduced by the central government at a discounted rate, is now accessible for online purchase. The initiative aims to make this essential food item more widely available to consumers.

Previously, the Bharat Rice was exclusively sold through physical stores, leading to instances of rapid sellouts due to high demand. However, the central government has taken a step towards easing accessibility by making the rice available for online purchase.

The online platform for purchasing Bharat Rice is currently limited to Nafed Bazaar, and it is yet to be made available on major e-commerce websites such as Amazon and Flipkart. Interested buyers can order 10 kg bags of Bharat Rice at the rate of Rs 290 per bag.

It’s important to note that, as of now, the sale of Bharat Rice through online channels is restricted to customers in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

How to Place Online Orders:

  1. Visit Nafed Bazaar.
  2. Navigate to the ‘Rice’ section in the menu.
  3. Select the desired product, ‘NAFED Bharat Rice 10 KG,’ to proceed.
  4. Add the product to your cart for a seamless purchase.
  5. Proceed to checkout after clicking on the cart.
  6. Fill in the required form with your address and phone number for delivery.
  7. Make the payment to complete the purchase.

The introduction of Bharat Rice at a subsidized rate of Rs 29 per kilogram by the BJP-led NDA government aims to provide relief to consumers facing a 15 percent rise in retail prices of rice over the past year.

In the initial phase, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has allocated 5 lakh tonnes of rice to two cooperatives – National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) – along with the retail chain Kendriya Bhandar. These entities will package the rice into 5 kg and 10 kg units, branded under the ‘Bharat’ label, and distribute them through their respective outlets. The rice will also be made available for purchase on various e-commerce platforms.

As part of the government’s efforts to address rising rice prices, the FCI is making high-quality rice available to traders and wholesalers under the Open Market Sale Scheme at a reserve price of Rs 29/kg.
