In a remarkable achievement, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal 2 (T2) has been acknowledged as one of the ‘world’s most beautiful airports’ in the recent UNESCO’s Prix Versailles 2023 awards. This prestigious recognition sets Bengaluru apart as the sole Indian airport to receive such an esteemed honor.
T2’s acclaim goes beyond this recent accolade, having previously secured the coveted IGBC platinum certification from the Indian Green Building Council. Designed to accommodate 25 million passengers annually in its first phase, T2 epitomizes a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. Aptly named the ‘Terminal in a Garden,’ it serves as a tribute to Bengaluru, known as the ‘Garden City.’
The distinguished panel of judges, chaired by the renowned fashion designer Elie Saab, conferred this honor upon T2, recognizing it with the ‘Special Prize for an Interior’ for its exceptional design.
Established in 2015, the Prix Versailles focuses on intelligent sustainability as a cultural driver, acknowledging innovation, creativity, reflection of local heritage, ecological efficiency, and values of social interaction. T2’s recognition underscores its commitment to these principles, making it a beacon of architectural excellence on the global stage.
