Bengaluru, 10th July 2023: In a shocking incident, unidentified criminals robbed a transport vehicle carrying 2,000 kg of tomatoes in Bengaluru. The incident took place on July 8 near Chikkajala, within the jurisdiction of the RMC Yard police station. According to the police, the vehicle was transporting the tomatoes from Hiriyur in Chitradurga to the market in Kolar when it was targeted by three criminals.

The criminals followed the tomato vehicle in their car and eventually intercepted it. They then attacked the farmer and the driver, claiming that their own vehicle had been hit. Threatening the victims, the assailants demanded money and forced them to transfer the amount online to their mobile device. After obtaining the money, the criminals loaded the stolen tomatoes onto their vehicle and fled the scene, leaving the farmer and driver stranded on the road.

The RMC Yard Police are actively investigating the case and gathering CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the culprits responsible for this brazen act of robbery.

The incident comes at a time when the price of tomatoes in Karnataka has skyrocketed to Rs 120 to Rs 150 per kg. Faced with an increase in farm invasions and thefts, farmers have resorted to extreme measures such as setting up tents and keeping a vigilant watch over their tomato crops to prevent further losses.
