As the festivities of Gudi Padwa, EID, Biju, and Ugadi approach, banks in India are preparing to close their doors for an extended holiday period. Starting from April 9, 2024, a series of five consecutive days will see banks shuttered across the nation. However, the holiday schedule varies from city to city, prompting customers to verify the operating status of their local branches. Here’s a comprehensive list of bank holidays for the upcoming week.

The determination of bank holidays falls under the purview of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), categorized into three distinct types: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

April 9: Marking the celebration of Gudhi Padwa, Ugadi Festival, Telugu New Year’s Day, Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba), and the onset of the 1st Navratra, banks will remain closed on Monday, April 9. In cities such as Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, and Srinagar, banking operations will be suspended for the day.

April 10: On Tuesday, April 10, the observance of Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr) will lead to bank closures in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

April 11: The nationwide celebration of Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr) (1st Shawaal) will result in the closure of most banks across the country on Wednesday, April 11. Cities affected include Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Itanagar, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Shillong, Ranchi, and Srinagar.

April 13: In addition to being the second Saturday of the month, April 13th will witness bank closures due to Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba, Baisakhi, and the Biju Festival. Affected cities include Agartala, Guwahati, Imphal, Jammu, and Srinagar.

April 14: As Sunday, April 14, falls within the holiday period, banks will remain closed as per their usual weekly schedule.

It’s worth noting that banks will remain shut for a total of 14 days in April 2024, according to the RBI calendar.
