Asia Pacific Cities Summit: Delhi Mayor Oberoi Receives Green Light

Delhi Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi has successfully secured the political approval required for her upcoming overseas journey. This development follows her recent petition to the Delhi High Court, in which she contested the delay in obtaining the necessary authorization to participate in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2023, set to be held in Brisbane, Australia.

Political Approval Granted: Mayor Oberoi’s quest for political approval reached a positive conclusion as the Ministry of External Affairs granted the required permission after her legal petition was filed. This swift action resolves the uncertainty surrounding her participation in the prestigious international event.

Court Disposes of the Petition: During the legal proceedings, the central government’s standing counsel, Kirtiman Singh, argued that permission had been granted post-petition, attempting to dismiss the relevance of the case. However, Justice Subramaniam Prasad refuted this argument, asserting that the petition’s central issue had already been effectively resolved. Consequently, the court disposed of the petition, bringing closure to the matter.

Urgency Emphasized: It is important to note that Mayor Oberoi’s legal representative underscored the urgency of the situation. With her travel scheduled for October 9, time was of the essence. The petition highlights that Oberoi meticulously followed all prescribed procedures to seek approval for her participation in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit-2023. The event, slated for October 11 to October 13 this year, carries substantial significance in the realm of international municipal cooperation.

Delhi Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi’s successful pursuit of political approval for her overseas engagement showcases the importance of timely and efficient decision-making processes in government affairs. This positive resolution ensures her participation in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2023, where she can contribute to the global discourse on urban development and governance.
