Air India Express Addresses Flight Cancellations: Compensation Offered to Affected Passengers

In light of recent disruptions caused by a surge in flight cancellations, Air India Express, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, has taken proactive measures to alleviate the inconvenience faced by affected passengers. The airline has announced comprehensive compensation packages, including full refunds and complimentary rescheduling options, aimed at mitigating the impact of these unforeseen disruptions.

The turmoil unfolded on Wednesday, as Air India Express grappled with a significant number of flight cancellations, surpassing the 80-flight mark. These cancellations were attributed to crew shortages, with a portion of the staff reporting sick, citing grievances linked to purported mismanagement within the airline. This unrest stems from internal discontent among staff members following the merger with AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India.

Despite the airline’s ambitious summer schedule, which commenced in late March with plans to operate 360 flights daily, operational disruptions ensued when over 200 crew members called in sick, exacerbating the challenges faced by Air India Express.

Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, an Air India spokesperson confirmed that a segment of the cabin crew had reported sick on the night of May 7, leading to unavoidable delays and cancellations. The airline is actively engaging with the affected crew members to discern the underlying causes behind the surge in sick leave and has pledged to extend compensation to passengers inconvenienced by these disruptions.

In response to the influx of passenger grievances on various social media platforms, Air India Express has expressed remorse for the inconvenience caused by the abrupt flight cancellations. Assuring affected passengers of their commitment to service recovery, the airline has provided reassurance that passengers can either reschedule their flights within the next 7 days or opt for a full refund through Tia, the airline’s chat bot.
