AI Skills Propel Indian Workers Towards Lucrative Salary Hikes: Report

Indian workers equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) skills could witness significant salary boosts exceeding 54%, particularly in sectors such as IT and research and development, according to a comprehensive report released on Tuesday.

The study, conducted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), underscores the growing demand for AI proficiency in the Indian workforce, with 97% of respondents expressing optimism about the positive impact of AI skills on their career trajectories. Notably, employees in IT are projected to experience a remarkable 65% increase in salaries, followed closely by those in research and development at 62%.

Amit Mehta, Head of AWS Training and Certification, AWS India, emphasized the pivotal role of AI-skilled professionals in fostering innovation and driving productivity across diverse industries. He noted, “From financial services to construction and retail, industries are embracing AI at a rapid pace, which is why an AI-skilled workforce is essential to unleashing a culture of innovation and driving productivity in India.”

The comprehensive survey, which included insights from over 1,600 workers and 500 employers in India, revealed a robust appetite for AI upskilling initiatives, with 95% of respondents expressing keen interest in enhancing their AI proficiency to accelerate career growth.

Across generations, there is a unanimous eagerness to acquire AI skills, with 95% of Gen Z, 96% of millennials, and 93% of Gen X workers expressing their intent to develop AI expertise. Even baby boomers, comprising 90% of respondents, indicated a willingness to enroll in AI upskilling courses if made available.

Furthermore, employers anticipate a substantial boost in organizational productivity, with expectations of a 68% increase driven by AI technology’s ability to automate repetitive tasks, facilitate skill acquisition, and enhance workflow efficiency. Similarly, workers foresee a significant uptick in personal efficiency, with AI poised to elevate productivity levels by up to 66%.

As AI continues to permeate various sectors of the economy, the report underscores the critical importance of cultivating a skilled workforce adept in AI technologies, paving the way for enhanced innovation, productivity, and career advancement opportunities in India’s evolving digital landscape.
