Above the Gridlock: NHAI Flooded with Proposals as India Looks Up to Ropeways

In a bid to tackle the ever-growing menace of traffic congestion, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has underlined the pivotal role of ropeway systems in providing a viable solution. Speaking at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Government of Maharashtra, Gadkari revealed that the National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) have received a staggering 40 proposals for ropeway projects.

Gadkari emphasized that the incorporation of essential amenities such as parking facilities, accommodations, and food services for tourists during the construction of ropeways could significantly enhance tourism prospects. The minister stressed the affordability and effectiveness of ropeway systems in alleviating traffic problems and urged relevant departments to expedite project progress by submitting detailed project reports.

Addressing the need for sustainable urbanization and transportation planning, Gadkari also advocated for the development of markets for local products and the prioritization of solar energy for vehicle charging facilities.

The statements made by Gadkari underscore the government’s commitment to exploring innovative solutions to ease the burden on the country’s roads. The focus on ropeway development aligns with the broader vision of creating efficient and sustainable transportation infrastructure.

As India grapples with increasing urbanization and the associated rise in vehicular traffic, the adoption of ropeways offers a novel approach to easing congestion, particularly in densely populated areas. The Ministry’s collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra on traffic simulation models and ropeway development signifies a strategic step towards a futuristic and sustainable transportation system.
