Google has recently introduced a new feature called Instant Hotspot as part of its latest Android Feature Drop. This feature is designed to simplify the process of connecting devices to the internet, but it will not be available on Samsung devices.
What is Instant Hotspot?
The Instant Hotspot feature allows Android tablets and Chromebooks to connect to a phone’s hotspot with just a tap, eliminating the need for manually activating the hotspot, searching for it, and entering a password. This seamless process is part of Google’s effort to enhance cross-device connectivity, providing a user experience similar to Apple’s Continuity.
Availability and Exclusion of Samsung Devices
According to information from Android Authority, the Instant Hotspot feature is part of a new Cross-Device Services module in Play Services. It works on phones running Android 11 or newer. However, Google has officially announced that Samsung devices will not support this feature.
The exact reason for this exclusion has not been disclosed, but it is speculated that Samsung may prefer to promote its own connectivity features. Samsung Galaxy device owners will have to rely on existing features such as Auto Hotspot for Samsung tablets and Instant Tethering for Chromebooks to connect their devices to the internet.
Alternative Connectivity Features for Samsung Devices
While Samsung devices miss out on the Instant Hotspot feature, they are not left without options. Samsung offers:
- Auto Hotspot: Allows Samsung tablets to automatically connect to the phone’s hotspot without needing manual intervention.
- Instant Tethering: Facilitates quick connections between Samsung devices and Chromebooks.
These features provide similar functionality, ensuring that Samsung users can still enjoy easy and efficient internet sharing.
