OnePlus 12R Storage Confusion: Refund Offered for 256GB Variant Until March 16

OnePlus finds itself in a bit of a predicament after the recent launch of the OnePlus 12R, as users reported discrepancies in the advertised UFS 4.0 storage for the 256GB variant. In response, the company has admitted to the error and is now offering a refund option for users who purchased this specific version. However, this refund offer is only valid until March 16.

During the launch, OnePlus touted the UFS 4.0 storage feature in the 256GB variant. Still, after user complaints about lower speeds, the company clarified that all OnePlus 12R variants actually feature UFS 3.1 storage, complemented by the Trinity Engine’s software algorithms. Despite the initial confusion, users have expressed satisfaction with the device’s performance in reading and writing to memory.

OnePlus introduced the Trinity Engine during the launch, a set of software algorithms aimed at ensuring swift and seamless operation of the phone’s memory and storage over time. The company admitted the mistake and issued a statement confirming, “I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1.”

OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu announced a plan of action, providing a refund option for users who purchased the 256GB storage version. This gesture is a response to the discrepancy between the advertised UFS 4.0 and the actual UFS 3.1 storage in the affected variant.

The distinction between UFS 3.1 and UFS 4.0 lies in their read and write speeds. While UFS 4.0 generally offers faster performance, UFS 3.1 is commonly found in affordable premium and mid-range smartphones, including the OnePlus 11 Series. Despite the clarification, OnePlus reassures users that the OnePlus 12R with UFS 3.1 storage will still deliver robust performance in memory-related tasks.
