Congress Leader Highlights Sangli’s Legacy as Congress Stronghold, Anticipates MVA Alliance Announcement
Vishal Patil, a prominent Congress leader eyeing candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, exudes optimism regarding the party’s prospects in the Sangli parliamentary constituency. Patil’s optimism stems from Sangli’s historical association with the Congress party, having been represented by Congress candidates a remarkable 16 times in the past.
Speaking to the media in Sangli on Monday, Patil revealed that anticipation is high among party members for an announcement regarding the Sangli seat during the scheduled press conference led by leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.
Patil emphasized the significance of Sangli as a traditional stronghold for the Congress party, underscoring its historical allegiance to Congress candidates over the years. However, he lamented the unilateral decision by MVA partner Shiv Sena (UBT faction) to announce their candidate for the Sangli seat without consulting other alliance members.
Expressing solidarity with fellow Congress leader and MLA Vishwajeet Kadam’s efforts to secure the Sangli seat, Patil denounced the baseless allegations leveled against Kadam by Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut. He condemned attempts to discredit Kadam’s commitment to representing the interests of Sangli constituents.
The Sangli constituency has garnered significant attention following the announcement of wrestler Chandrahar Patil as the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral contest in the region.
