Seizing the Underworld: Auction Set for Dawood Ibrahim’s Ancestral Lands

In a significant development, the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Authority (SAFEMA) is scheduled to auction four ancestral properties connected to the fugitive underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, in Maharashtra on January 5. The properties, located in Mumbke village, Ratnagiri district, hold historical significance as the ancestral village of Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar.

The upcoming auction will include agricultural plots, and the reserve price for these properties is set at Rs 19.2 lakh, with the smallest plot listed at Rs 15,440. This move follows previous auctions in 2017 and 2020 when SAFEMA successfully auctioned over 17 properties belonging to Dawood Ibrahim.

Dawood Ibrahim, a notorious figure in the global underworld, has been on the run for several years, and efforts to seize and auction his properties aim to divest him of ill-gotten gains. The auction is part of SAFEMA’s ongoing efforts to forfeit properties acquired through illegal activities, with a focus on dismantling the financial networks of criminals.

The properties in Mumbke village have garnered attention due to their connection to Dawood Ibrahim’s roots, and the auction is expected to attract interest from various quarters. Authorities are optimistic about a successful auction, contributing to the ongoing efforts to curtail criminal activities and dismantle illicit financial structures.
