PM Modi to Hand Over 15,024 Homes in Solapur, Maharashtra, in Second Visit of the Week

Solapur, Maharashtra – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make his second visit to Maharashtra within a week, arriving in Solapur on January 19 to deliver the keys of over 15,024 homes to beneficiaries from economically weaker sections of society. This historic event is part of the ambitious PM Awas Yojana, which aims to provide affordable housing to those in need.

The homes in Solapur are a significant component of a larger initiative that has seen the construction of over 30,000 residential units under the PM Awas Yojana. Leftist leader Narsayya Adam first proposed the housing project, commending Modi for the initiative, despite facing repercussions from his party CPI-M.

In addition to dedicating the homes in the Raynagar Housing Society, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for eight Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) projects in Maharashtra, collectively valued at approximately ₹2,000 crore, according to a statement from the Press Information Bureau.

During the public program in Solapur, the Prime Minister will also dedicate more than 90,000 houses completed under PMAY-Urban in Maharashtra. Furthermore, Modi will initiate the distribution of the first and second installments to 10,000 beneficiaries of PM-SVANIDHI in Maharashtra.

The Solapur housing project, executed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), is deemed the world’s largest affordable housing plan on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis, covering 100 acres. Each house, costing ₹6 lakh, includes living spaces, a kitchen, a bedroom, and an individual bathroom with water connections.

Beneficiaries, including factory workers, peons, salespersons, autorickshaw drivers, beedi workers, and vegetable vendors, will receive a subsidy of ₹2.5 lakh per house, with ₹1.5 lakh from the central government and ₹1 lakh from the state government. The EMI for the loan ranges between ₹1,800 and ₹2,500, aligning with the principle that the EMI should equal home rent.

PM Modi’s commitment to the Solapur housing project dates back to 2019 when he laid its foundation stone and promised to return to deliver house keys to the beneficiaries.
