Maharashtra: Parents across Maharashtra are expressing growing concerns as the annual admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act faces delays this year. Traditionally commencing between November and December, the process is currently on hold awaiting the state government’s approval.
The RTE Act mandates the reservation of 25% of seats in unaided private English medium schools for students from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections. The admission process for these reserved seats is conducted online by the state primary education department.
Officials from the Department of Primary Education have submitted a proposal to the state government, seeking approval for the initiation of the admission process. However, without the government’s nod, parents and schools are left in limbo, uncertain about the timeline for this critical process.
Sharad Gosavi, Director of the Primary Education Department, stated, “A proposal has been sent to the state government to approve the initiation of the admission process. It is expected to be approved in the coming weeks.”
The delay raises concerns among parents who are eager to secure educational opportunities for their children through the RTE Act. The situation underscores the need for a swift resolution to ensure a smooth admission process for the upcoming academic year.
