Non-disclosure of 2 cases in poll affidavit: Nagpur Court acquits Mah deputy CM Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis

Nagpur, Sep 8 (UNI) A local court on Friday acquitted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from all charges with regard to non-disclosure of two criminal cases in his poll affidavit during the 2014 Assembly election in the state.

Civil judge S.S. Jadhav, pronouncing the verdict ruled that that the charges were not ‘substantiated’.

Satish Uke, an advocate had filed an application seeking criminal proceedings against Fadnavis that cases of cheating and forgery had been registered against the Senior BJP leader in 1996 and 1998 and that he did not disclose details about these criminal cases in his poll affidavit filed in 2014.

It was believed that had this information been disclosed at the time, it could have influenced the election results.

However, the Judge felt that Fadnavis did not suppress these charges with any ‘deliberate intent’, leading to his acquittal.

After hearing comprehensive arguments from both sides, the Judge initially planned to announce the Judgement on September 5. However, the verdict was postponed till today.
