MLC Satyajeet Tambe Urges Public Holiday in Maharashtra for Ram Mandir Inauguration Day

Ahmednagar, 15th January 2024: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Satyajeet Tambe has called for a public holiday in Maharashtra on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of Lord Shri Ram Temple, scheduled for January 22 in Ayodhya. In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Tambe emphasized the need for a statewide holiday to accommodate the festive celebrations.

Tambe’s letter proposes that all government and semi-government offices, establishments, schools, and colleges be declared closed on January 22. He expressed concern over potential traffic issues due to the expected large number of processions and gatherings across the state. Tambe highlighted that declaring a public holiday would enable the youth to actively participate in the celebratory events without being hindered by work or educational commitments.

The MLC cited the ongoing preparations for the temple inauguration, emphasizing the likelihood of significant crowds and rushes. He pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh government had already declared a public holiday to facilitate enthusiastic celebrations, and he urged the Maharashtra government to follow suit.

Furthermore, Tambe highlighted the potential traffic disruptions during street festivities and emphasized that declaring a holiday would alleviate these concerns. He stated that with a holiday in place, people commuting for work or students attending schools and colleges would not face the usual traffic challenges associated with such events.
