Mira Road Unrest: Maharashtra Government Demolishes Illegal Properties Linked to Stone-Pelting

Following the violent stone-pelting incident during a Ram Temple rally in Mira Road, near Mumbai, the Maharashtra government, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, has taken decisive action to demolish illegal structures and clear encroachments on Tuesday. The move comes just two days after the area was marred by violence during the Hindu procession.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, had previously issued a stern warning, threatening strict measures against the rioters, setting the stage for prompt government action.

The targeted demolition focused on illegal stores and residences where stones were thrown during the Ram Temple rally on Monday. The decision to take swift action reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.

The stone attack during the Hindu procession resulted in injuries to an unspecified number of processionists and police officers responsible for providing security. To prevent any further untoward incidents, a substantial contingent of police officers, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) team, was deployed in the area.

According to police reports, the altercation began in the Naya Nagar neighborhood when a group of Hindus staged a rally with vehicles and banners. Subsequently, another group wielding iron rods, sticks, and bats attacked the procession, targeting vehicles and participants while shouting religious slogans.

Videos of the clash between the two communities in Mira Road circulated on social media, with an image of provocateur Abu Shaikh going viral. The individual responsible for uploading the video has been taken into custody, and the Mira Bhayander police have requested a two-day stay.

In response to the incident, 13 people were detained by the police after filing a report alleging attempted murder by 50–60 individuals.

The stone-pelting incident occurred on the eve of the consecration ceremony for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, adding significance to the government’s swift and decisive actions in Mira Road.
