Mass Food Poisoning Tragedy Strikes Maharashtra Village After Religious Event

In a distressing turn of events, Somthana village in Lonar taluka of Buldhana district, Maharashtra, witnessed a mass food poisoning incident after a religious program organized on Ekadashi. The aftermath of the event has left nearly 500 people suffering from vomiting and diarrhea, prompting a large-scale response from government hospitals in the region.

Religious Event Turns Tragic:

The incident unfolded on Tuesday after a religious program, where bhagar and amti were served to all the devotees. However, shortly after consuming the food, a significant number of villagers reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. The sudden outbreak of food poisoning has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety of the consumed items.

Emergency Hospital Admissions:

Approximately 450 to 500 individuals affected by the food poisoning are currently undergoing treatment in government hospitals at Bibi, Lonar, Mehkar, and Sindkhed Raja. The severity of the situation prompted the admission of patients to all available health centers in the area. Due to the overwhelming number of cases, makeshift treatment areas were set up outside hospitals to accommodate the surge of patients.

Challenges and Villager Outrage:

With a shortage of beds and medical staff, some patients were treated on the floor outside the hospital premises. Reports indicate that, in certain primary health centers, the absence of doctors resulted in delayed treatment for patients, leading to a deterioration in their conditions. This has sparked frustration and anger among the villagers who have expressed concerns about the lack of timely medical attention.

Swift Response and Ongoing Treatment:

A team of doctors was urgently summoned from Buldhana to support the overwhelmed health facilities. Patients from the affected village were transported to various hospitals for immediate medical intervention. Despite the chaos and anxiety in the village, no casualties have been reported, offering a glimmer of relief amid the crisis.
