Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sep 11 (UNI) Thousands of devotees thronged for the blessings of three ‘Shiva Jyotirlingas ‘ across the Marathwada region since Sunday night on the occasion of the last ‘Shravani Somvar’ on Monday.
A special arrangement has been made at three ‘Jyotirlingas’ including ‘Ghrishneshwar’ at Ellora in Aurangabad district, ‘Parli Vaijnath’ at Parli in Beed district, and ‘Aunda Nagnath’ at Aunda in -Hingoli district, for paying obeisance.
Devotees are observing fasts and holding prayers and abhisheks for Lord Shiva on Monday.
At the three Jyotirlingas, long queues were seen, especially of women with Belpatri (bel leaves) and flowers.
Sources from Ellora, one of the Jyotirlingas, said thousands had been seen queuing since the early hours of Monday for ‘darshan’ of ‘Grushneswar temple, about 35 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city.
The historic Ellora heritage is known for its world-famous number 16, ‘Kailash Cave, near the Jyotirlinga.
A report from Beed district stated that long queues were seen in front of the Parli-Vaijnath’ Jyotirlinga in Parli tehsil of the district since the early hours of Monday (one of 12 Jyotirlingas in the country).
The same scene was witnessed at ‘Aundha Nagnath’, in Aundha tehsil of Hingoli district, the third Jyotirlinga in Marathwada. ‘Shivalingas’ were worshipped on the auspicious festival, and special ‘poojas’ and ‘Abhisheks were performed on the occasion.
In view of ongoing Maratha reservation agitation in the region, police have made special security arrangements by deputing various terms of police to cope with the extra rush of devotees and avoid any untoward incident on the premises of all these temples, the report added.
