Maharashtra Teachers’ Recruitment Portal Faces Challenges; Deadline Extension Possible

In a surge of activity, nearly one lakh 18 thousand eligible merit holders have registered their preferences in the ongoing teacher recruitment process in Maharashtra. However, technical glitches on the dedicated portal have prompted discussions about extending the deadline until February 12, as some candidates face difficulties accessing the platform.

Suraj Mandhare, the State Education Commissioner, announced the potential deadline extension to accommodate eligible candidates who may be experiencing challenges with the teacher recruitment portal. Reports suggest that the platform’s slowdown, with over 75 thousand users logging in simultaneously, has resulted in issues for some applicants.

The recruitment process aims to fill a total of 21,678 vacant teaching positions in local bodies and private educational institutions. This includes 16,799 posts without an interview and 4,879 posts with an interview. Eligible candidates were given the opportunity to register their preferences, and the initial deadline was set for Thursday, but considerations for an extension are now underway.

Despite the significant surge in registrations, eligible candidates have encountered challenges such as website shutdowns and server issues during the application process. Calls for an extension of the preference order deadline have intensified as a response to these issues.

Suraj Mandhare highlighted that out of two lakh 17 thousand merit holders, almost one lakh 18 thousand have submitted their preferences in the last two days. To provide more time for all eligible candidates, the deadline extension until February 12 has been proposed, with the option to lock preferences available from Friday (9th) for those who have completed the selection process.

In an effort to address confusion and challenges faced by eligible candidates during preference registration, there is a growing demand for the administration to establish a help center in the education commissioner’s office dedicated to the teacher recruitment process.
