Maharashtra Takes Swift Measures to Tackle COVID-19 Surge, Says Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, reassured the public on Friday that the state government is actively addressing the recent resurgence of COVID-19. Following a series of meetings in Pune, Pawar shared updates on the government’s initiatives to curb the spread of the virus and underscored the importance of heightened vigilance.

During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, health department representatives briefed Pawar on the evolving situation, providing daily updates on the number of COVID-19 cases. While acknowledging that the current strain is not as severe as during the peak of the pandemic, Pawar urged citizens to exercise caution and adhere to preventive measures.

Patients, based on doctor recommendations, have the option to receive treatment at home, reflecting a strategic approach to managing the situation. Pawar stressed the crucial role of mask-wearing in public spaces and directed civil surgeons and health offices to implement necessary preventive measures.

As part of his engagements, Pawar inaugurated several facilities at Sassoon General Hospital and BJ Medical College in Pune. The 11-story building, operational since 2020, was introduced to handle the increased workload due to COVID-19 patients. The facilities included a transgender ward, remodeled grounds, a CT scan and MRI center, a forensic department, a neurosurgery department, an internal medicine ward, and an interventional radiology section.

DMER Minister Hasan Mushrif, who accompanied Pawar, inaugurated the transgender ward, the second of its kind in Maharashtra. Pawar highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade Sassoon, ensuring high-quality care for low-income patients, and acquiring additional modern equipment. Plans for expanding healthcare facilities in Pimpri Chinchwad are also in progress.
