Maharashtra Set to Unveil Comprehensive Housing Policy: Aiming for Inclusive and Accessible Living

Maharashtra’s Minister of Housing, Atul Save, has announced that the state’s much-anticipated housing policy is on track to be unveiled before the upcoming state budget, expected at the end of the next month. With nearly 90% of the draft work completed, the policy is poised to address key objectives centered around providing housing for all, with a focus on accessibility, single-window systems, and business-friendly processes.

The comprehensive policy has taken into account inputs from various stakeholders in the housing sector, and Minister Save encourages feedback from all concerned parties. The government’s commitment is evident in its keenness to enhance the housing policy, emphasizing affordable housing initiatives through bodies like the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated 15,024 houses in Solapur district, marking the largest affordable housing project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U). This initiative involves the construction of 833 buildings, providing 30,000 flats to economically weaker groups.

Housing department officials have reported a significant influx of proposals for MHADA homes across the state. The focus remains on expanding existing programs and introducing numerous additional projects to cater to the growing demand for affordable housing.

In an effort to diversify housing sources, the new policy aims to integrate private sector initiatives alongside various state and federal government schemes. The goal is to create a robust housing ecosystem that addresses the diverse needs of the population while ensuring transparency and efficiency.
