Maharashtra Set to Establish 43 Cyber Labs to Combat Rising Cyber Crimes

Mumbai, a bustling metropolis in Maharashtra, is taking a proactive stance against the escalating threat of cybercrimes with the launch of an ambitious initiative. The state is gearing up to establish a network of 43 cyber labs as part of an integrated cyber platform. Simultaneously, efforts are being directed towards enacting the Shakti Act, a legislation aimed at imposing stringent penalties on those responsible for violence against women.

The move signifies a robust crackdown on various criminal activities, including the illegal trade of drugs and contraband liquor. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the Assembly, emphasized a “zero tolerance” policy towards crime.

Notably, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the gravity of crimes targeting women and unveiled a crucial strategy to convert complaints against women into immediate First Information Reports (FIRs). This proactive approach has led to a significant increase in the registration of cases. Maharashtra currently ranks 12th in the national tally of reported crimes.

In a comprehensive overview, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed that the state has registered 1,651 cases of extortion, 3,132 instances of organized crime, 166,428 cases of cheating, and 92 cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). A combined task force comprising central and state authorities has been formed to collaboratively combat the sale and transportation of illicit drugs.

Recognizing the importance of women police personnel’s welfare, the government is actively working on enhancing facilities at their deployment locations. A comprehensive report focusing on improving facilities for women police officers within police stations is in progress. In an assertive stand, the Deputy Chief Minister pledged to take strong and resolute action against anyone who disrespects revered figures within the state, affirming that “no leniency will be granted.”

The Assembly session witnessed active participation from several members, including Jitendra Awhad, Nitesh Rane, Varsha Gaikwad, Yamini Jadhav, Abu Azmi, Atul Bhatkhalkar, Ravindra Waikar, Rais Shaikh, Manisha Chaudhary, Balasaheb Thorat, Sunil Prabhu, Anil Deshmukh, Sanjay Kelkar, Balwantrao Wankhede, Rajesh Tope, Sangram Jagtap, Ravindra Dhangekar, Vishwajit Kadam, Rohit Pawar, among others. This collaborative and determined effort underlines Maharashtra’s commitment to curbing cybercrimes and fostering safety and security within the state.
