Maha Govt Extends a Helping Hand: Rs 5/Liter Subsidy Announced for Milk Producers

In a proactive move to bolster the dairy industry, the Maharashtra State Government has announced a subsidy of Rs 5 per liter for milk producers supplying to both cooperative societies and private milk projects in the state. This scheme, in effect from January 11 to February 10, has been allocated a substantial financial provision of Rs 230 crore.

P P Mohod, Regional Dairy Development Officer of Pune Division, revealed that 83 eligible milk projects in the Pune division are poised to benefit from this subsidy, marking a significant step towards supporting the dairy farming community.

Implemented jointly by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Cooperation, the scheme is currently underway, with district-wise cooperative and private projects receiving login IDs and user IDs for seamless participation.

To ensure transparency and efficient execution, the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department has conducted joint meetings at the regional district level, providing essential updates on the scheme’s implementation.

Actively involved in ear tagging the animals of milk-producing farmers, the department is also gathering comprehensive information on a large scale. To guarantee the inclusivity of all milk-producing farmers in the subsidy scheme, a strong emphasis has been placed on creating a farmer ID in the E-Gopala and 1962 NDLM application. Additionally, farmers can contact the Animal Husbandry Department of their respective districts for the ear tagging process.

The daily milk production in the state stands at an impressive 1 crore 45 lakh 21 thousand liters. Of this, 41 lakh 97 thousand liters are supplied to cooperative societies by milk-producing farmers, while private projects receive the remaining one crore three lakh 24 thousand liters.

The state government’s decision to provide a Rs 5/liter subsidy aims to extend financial support to farmers contributing to both private and cooperative projects, fostering growth and stability in the dairy sector.
