Going Green for Ganesh Chaturthi: MPCB’s New App Promotes Eco-Friendly Celebrations

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Introduces Eco-Friendly Ganesha Murti App

In a progressive stride towards fostering environmentally conscious practices, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has unveiled a groundbreaking mobile application dedicated to facilitating the acquisition of eco-friendly Ganesha idols. The initiative aims to empower citizens with accessible information about sustainable sculptors across Maharashtra, fostering the widespread adoption of greener alternatives for the forthcoming festivities.

Addressing Environmental Concerns

The initiative is a response to escalating worries regarding environmental degradation stemming from the immersion of traditional plaster-of-paris idols in water bodies. By prioritizing eco-friendly idols, the app endeavors to expedite the embrace of sustainable practices and mitigate the ecological repercussions of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Streamlined Access to Eco-Friendly Options

The mobile application offers users a comprehensive repository of eco-friendly Ganesha idols and facilitates the identification of nearby vendors offering these environmentally sustainable alternatives. This user-friendly approach aims to bolster the adoption of eco-conscious practices by empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their festive adornments.

Sanjay Bhuskute, PRO at the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, shared insights about the app’s objectives, stating, “Our forthcoming environmental initiative addresses citizens’ concerns regarding the challenge of locating eco-friendly Ganesh idol makers. Through our initiative, we are developing a user-centric app that serves as a pivotal platform for promoting awareness about eco-friendly Ganesh idols. The app will furnish detailed information about idol makers, including their contact details and geographic locations. Users will also have access to visual representations of available idols. We are enthusiastic about launching this app within the next 15 days, confident that it will significantly contribute to advancing sustainability during festive revelries.”

Empowering Eco-Friendly Artisans

The app also serves as a platform for eco-friendly sculptors and manufacturers to showcase their creations. Interested firms are invited to furnish essential details such as firm name, proprietor information, workplace address, contact details, and images of their offerings. The submission deadline for information in both Marathi and English languages is set for June 10, 2024.

Facilitating Seamless Transactions

Enthusiasts seeking eco-friendly Ganesha idols can directly engage with listed idol makers through the app, facilitating a frictionless transaction process. By consolidating information and resources, the MPCB aims to invigorate the market for eco-friendly idols and foster sustainable choices among the populace.
