Goa Tourism Empowers Public Oversight with Beach Vigil App to Report Violations

In a significant move towards enhancing beach management and preserving the pristine beauty of its coastal areas, the Goa Tourism Department has launched the Beach Vigil App. Rolled out for public use, the app aims to empower citizens to report various beach violations, ensuring timely actions by relevant authorities.

State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte announced the official launch of the Beach Vigil App, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining the sanctity of Goa’s renowned beaches. Initially introduced in July of the previous year, the app is now available for public use, offering a user-friendly interface for reporting a range of violations.

Users can utilize the app to report issues such as illegal vending, unauthorized massages, improper placement of deck beds, hawking, touting, and more. A comprehensive list of 16 violations related to beach activities, including garbage dumping and illegal constructions, allows citizens to actively contribute to the upkeep of their coastal environment.

Minister Khaunte emphasized that unresolved complaints reported through the app would be escalated to higher authorities, ensuring a swift and effective response. Developed by the state-run Goa Electronic Limited, the app has gained popularity since its soft launch, with 1,300 downloads and 1,240 reported violations. Impressively, 1,091 of these reported issues have already been successfully addressed.

The recent legal amendment now empowers the police to take immediate action against beach illegalities under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This move reinforces Goa’s commitment to providing a positive and enjoyable experience for tourists, ensuring that its picturesque beaches remain a major attraction for visitors.
