Fighting Cybercrime: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Recover ₹70 Lakh in Online Cheating Cases

In a significant triumph against cyber fraud, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Cyber Police station, under the leadership of PI Praveena Yadav, has successfully assisted 111 complainants in reclaiming a total sum of ₹70 lakh lost to various cyber cheating cases since January 2023.

The surge in online cheating complaints prompted the implementation of robust measures by PI Praveena Yadav and her team to counteract cyber fraudsters who often exploit unsuspecting internet users with false promises of lucrative profits, job opportunities, or lottery winnings.

Directives were issued to technical teams to employ diverse strategies to aid victims of online cheating. Since the beginning of the year, the police have effectively recovered ₹70 lakh for the 111 complainants, with the retrieved funds being deposited into various accounts across states, including ₹31 lakh in Jharkhand, ₹16 lakh in Noida, ₹14 lakh in Delhi, and ₹9 lakh in various other locations.

PI Yadav highlighted the evolving tactics employed by cyber fraudsters, noting a shift towards stealing mobile phones and subsequently siphoning money from the owners through popular money transfer apps like PhonePay, Google Pay, and Paytm. Additionally, fraudsters have been targeting individuals at ATM centers, deceiving them under the guise of assistance and stealing their ATM cards.

In response to these emerging threats, PI Yadav issued a cautionary appeal to the public, urging them to exercise vigilance during online transactions and refrain from sharing confidential information over the phone.
