Cold Wave Grips Maharashtra: Minimum Temperatures Plummet Below 10 Degrees Celsius

Maharashtra: A persistent cold wave, influenced by the ongoing frigid conditions in North India, has made its presence felt in Maharashtra, particularly in the northern regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune reports that the minimum temperatures in North Maharashtra have dropped below 10 degrees Celsius, indicating a prolonged spell of cold weather expected to last for the next four days.

Chill from the Himalayas: Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, attributes the cold wave in Maharashtra to the continuous influx of cold winds from the west, originating primarily in the Himalayan regions. This weather pattern has led to a widespread cold wave affecting North India, including the national capital, Delhi, and extending its grip over North Maharashtra.

Recorded Temperatures: Cities in North Maharashtra witnessed significantly low minimum temperatures on Tuesday, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) recording 9.2 degrees Celsius, Jalgaon at 9.4 degrees Celsius, Ahmednagar at 9.6 degrees Celsius, and Nashik at 9.8 degrees Celsius. Even Pune, situated in the western part of the state, experienced a dip in the minimum temperature, registering at 10.8 degrees Celsius.

Extended Cold Spell: The prevailing weather pattern suggests that the cold conditions are anticipated to persist for the next four days. The minimum temperature in North Maharashtra is expected to hover between eight and nine degrees Celsius, while other parts of the state may witness a decline of two to three degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature. The Meteorological Department also forecasts morning fog, further contributing to the intensifying cold.

Cautionary Measures Advised: Residents are urged to take necessary precautions and prepare for the extended winter chill. As the cold wave continues, staying informed about weather updates and following safety guidelines becomes crucial.
