CLP leader Balasaheb Thorat condemns police action on protesters in Jalana

Nashik, Sep 3 (UNI) Expressing his anger over police lathi-charge on peaceful Maratha protesters in Jalana district of Marathwada region on Friday, Congress Legislature Party leader and MLA Balasaheb Thorat termed incident as a government-sponsored cowardly attack.

The inhumanity of the government is clearly visible from the video that has gone viral on social media, he said in reaction at Sangamner in Ahmednagar district on Saturday.

“The Maratha community has had held many movements for their demand of reservation. It is the right given to them by democracy. It is not right to crush the movement by using the police brutality. Historically, many movements have found their way through discussion,” he noted.

Both the central and state governments need to take immediate steps on the issue of Maratha reservation, he said and pointed that the Maratha community is going to get restless if there is no way out when there is a so-called superpower government both at the Centre and in the state.

The government’s attempt to crush the protest without understanding the mentality of the protesters is “condemnable”, he added.
