Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, has made significant announcements regarding the proposed Pune-Nashik Expressway. During a cabinet meeting held today in Mumbai, which included multiple ministers of the Maharashtra State Government, Pawar addressed the ongoing concerns.

The proposed Pune-Nashik Expressway is planned to pass through the talukas of Khed, Shirur, Ambegaon, and Junnar. However, the construction has faced strong opposition from farmers in these areas. In response, Dilip Walse Patil, the Minister of Cooperation, requested Ajit Pawar to hold a meeting with relevant officials to discuss the matter. Following this, DCM Pawar made an important announcement regarding the project.

Addressing Farmers’ Concerns

Pawar revealed, “The survey for the Pune-Nashik expressway is currently underway. However, the extensive acquisition of farmland for this project has led to significant opposition from local representatives and farmers. We will take the farmers’ concerns seriously. The survey will be halted, and we will discuss with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, to find an alternative route for the expressway.”

Immediate Actions and Future Plans

Further, Pawar instructed, “All officials are to immediately cease any ongoing processes related to this expressway. Walse Patil and I will soon convene a meeting with CM Eknath Shinde. We will carefully listen to the concerns of the local representatives and the community regarding the proposed route. The current proposal will be abandoned, and we will advocate for an alternate route to resolve this issue.”

Government’s Response and Next Steps

The halting of the survey demonstrates the government’s responsiveness to the farmers’ opposition. By considering an alternative route, the government aims to address the concerns while still progressing with the infrastructure project. This decision underscores the importance of involving local communities in developmental projects and ensuring their voices are heard.
