The Cyber Cell Unit of Pune City Police has successfully apprehended an individual hailing from Haryana for orchestrating an elaborate job scam. The accused duped a job aspirant of a staggering Rs 11,91,419 by falsely promising him a job at the renowned automobile company, Volkswagen. The arrest sheds light on the increasing prevalence of online job scams that exploit the hopes and aspirations of individuals seeking employment opportunities.
The victim, who aspired to secure a job at Volkswagen, was contacted by the accused under the guise of being representatives of ‘Top Career Consultancy.’ The communication transpired via email and phone calls originating from Gurgaon, Haryana. The accused offered the victim a position as a Senior General Manager at the company’s overseas unit. To solidify the illusion, the victim was instructed to make multiple online payments through a provided link.
Subsequently, the victim, realizing he had fallen prey to a fraudulent scheme, sought recourse by approaching the city’s cyber police. Swift and determined investigation efforts by the police unit led to the tracing of the accused to Haryana, identified as Parmanand Malik (29). He was taken into custody and is now under police custody for further proceedings.
The case has highlighted the alarming rise of cyber fraud and emphasizes the importance of vigilance when interacting with unknown sources online. Pune City Police are urging individuals who might have encountered similar fraudulent activities to come forward and report their experiences to the cyber police. Investigations have revealed that the accused might have victimized multiple individuals using the same modus operandi, underscoring the need for collective vigilance against such scams. The police are working diligently to uncover potential accomplices involved in the scam, thus ensuring that justice prevails and further victims are spared from falling into the same trap.
