Education for All: Government to Provide Competitive Exam Prep at Home

In a remarkable move geared towards easing the academic burden on students preparing for competitive entrance exams such as NEET, JEE Main, and CUET, the central government is taking strides to provide preparatory assistance accessible from the comfort of students’ homes. This initiative not only caters to students who face financial barriers in accessing private coaching institutions but also alleviates the financial strain on those already investing substantial sums in exam preparations.

The Ministry of Education has embarked on this initiative in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020. The task of implementation has been entrusted to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Currently, NCERT is actively engaged in an online education campaign, providing study materials pertaining to school subjects.

In the subsequent phase of this endeavor, NCERT will conduct preparatory classes for competitive entrance exams such as NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for medical admissions, JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination) for engineering courses, and the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions to various universities. These preparatory classes will be delivered through educational television and YouTube channels, with the assistance of highly qualified educators affiliated with schools.

This decision has been prompted by the intense competition in exams like NEET and JEE Main, which often subjects students to enormous pressure and financial constraints due to the exorbitant costs associated with private coaching centers. Recent tragic incidents of student suicides in Kota have underscored the urgency of addressing this pressing issue.

While the precise commencement date of these classes remains unconfirmed, it is evident that students will not be kept waiting for an extended period. The Ministry of Education has been diligently working to enhance the quality of education ever since the introduction of the National Education Policy. Its focus has been on fortifying students’ learning outcomes and streamlining board examinations to alleviate the stress experienced by students.

This initiative marks a significant stride in India’s pursuit of delivering accessible and high-quality education to students across the nation, potentially leveling the educational playing field for all aspiring scholars.
