Russian President Vladimir Putin has commended India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for adhering to an independent foreign policy, emphasizing the significance of the country’s autonomy in a global context.
“India pursues an independent foreign policy, which is not easy in the modern world. But India, with a population of one and a half billion, has the right to this,” Putin stated during a meeting with students in Kaliningrad, Russia, on Thursday, as reported by Russian news website Sputnik.
In addition to praising India’s foreign policy stance, Putin issued a warning to “outside forces,” specifically referencing the West, cautioning against attempting to wield political influence within India. “Playing games with India related to influence on its politics from outside has no future,” the Russian leader emphasized.
Putin expressed confidence in the trustworthiness of India as a partner, noting the strong relationship between the two nations. “We have very good relationships with India, and our faith in India is demonstrated by the fact that Moscow is New Delhi’s greatest foreign investor… and it is just the beginning,” Putin stated, as quoted by Russia Today.
Furthermore, Putin lauded India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, recognizing its significant impact and influence under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
Highlighting the cultural ties between Russia and India, Putin described India as having an interesting, diverse, and colorful culture. He noted that Russian national television regularly broadcasts Indian films, emphasizing the numerous connections between the two nations.
