Orange Poland Initiates 5G Network Testing on 3.5 GHz Band in Lublin

Orange Poland has taken a substantial leap into the future by officially launching 5G network testing in the heart of Lublin. This strategic move allows both Orange and Nju mobile users in the area to firsthand experience the remarkable capabilities of 5G technology. While Orange already provides 5G services in selected locations of Poland using the 2100 MHz frequency, this latest development ushers in a new era of connectivity for the people of Lublin and beyond.

5G in Lublin: Embracing the Future

Orange Polska has embarked on an ambitious journey to test the network’s performance under real-world conditions, focusing on assessing the capabilities of the C-Band. Notably, this frequency band is currently undergoing an auction process. The 5G tests, scheduled from September 1st to October 15, will harness target frequencies within the 3.4-3.8 GHz band. The outcome is expected to deliver a significant surge in network capacity and speeds, potentially exceeding 1 Gbps.

During this testing phase, users can anticipate blazing speeds of approximately 700-800 Mbps, representing a substantial upgrade from existing 4G LTE speeds. This leap in connectivity is made possible through the utilization of cutting-edge technology, including Massive MIMO.

Massive MIMO Technology: A Game Changer

One of the key elements propelling this technological advancement is Massive MIMO technology. Orange Polska is set to deploy 9 base stations in the vicinity of Lublin’s Old Town. Observers will notice small 5G radio modules adorning buildings and masts throughout the city center. Despite their compact size, these modules are technological giants, surpassing their larger predecessors.

Massive MIMO, with its 32T32R configuration featuring 32 transmitting and 32 receiving antennas, enables Multi-User MIMO functionality. This breakthrough technology allows multiple users to enjoy seamless connectivity on the same channel simultaneously.

Dedicated 5G Frequencies and Enhanced Reliability

While Orange Poland has been offering 5G services using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology since 2021, where frequency bands are dynamically shared between 4G and 5G based on user requirements, these new tests concentrate on dedicated 5G frequencies within the C band. This focus promises not only heightened network capacity but also increased speed. The 5G test operates on a 100 MHz bandwidth while sharing the frequency used for both LTE2100 (4G) and C-Band (5G).

Beyond rapid downloads, Orange emphasizes that the 5G network will significantly enhance network reliability, even in densely populated areas such as stadiums and concert venues. Users seeking access to 5G must ensure they possess a compatible SIM card, a 5G-enabled phone, and a mobile plan from Orange or Nju mobile that includes 5G services. The appearance of the 5G icon on their phone will indicate when they are within a coverage area.
