Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America cruise ship has implemented changes to its itinerary, demonstrating a commitment to supporting local communities in Hawaii. The alterations come in response to the ongoing challenges faced by the region, particularly Maui, due to wildfires that have caused devastation and displacement.
Starting from August 12 and lasting throughout the remainder of the month, Pride of America’s scheduled calls to Maui’s Kahului have been replaced with strategic overnight visits to Hilo on the Big Island and an extended stay in Nawiliwili on Kauai.
Originally, the ship was set to dock in Kahului on August 13-14. However, given the existing strain on local resources as a result of the wildfires, Norwegian Cruise Line opted to adjust its plans. The decision was aimed at mitigating any further stress on the region’s resources and services, ensuring that the affected areas receive the necessary support and attention.
Princess Cruises has also taken similar steps to contribute positively to the situation. The Emerald Princess cruise ship, which had initially planned to call at Lahaina on August 14, will now be visiting Kona on the Big Island instead. The cruise line has indicated that it will continue to assess upcoming itineraries and make any required adjustments to prioritize the well-being of both passengers and local communities.
Notably, Norwegian Cruise Line has displayed a strong commitment to aiding the recovery efforts in Maui. The cruise line has made a generous donation of $50,000 to the Maui United Way, a local organization focused on supporting community needs. Furthermore, the crew aboard the Pride of America has taken initiative by mobilizing donations of surplus inventory. This includes essential items such as clothing, towels, and diapers, which will be provided to the Hawaii Community Foundation to assist those affected by the wildfires.
