Global Ganesh Festival: ‘Glasgow Indians’ Draw Over 4,000 Participants in Scotland

Indians residing in Glasgow, Scotland, marked the Ganesh festival with a magnificent procession, attracting over 4,000 participants, including foreign nationals.

In recent years, the Ganesh festival has transcended borders, becoming a global celebration as Indians living abroad enthusiastically partake in the festivities. A group of Indian citizens hailing from Maharashtra, who call Glasgow, Scotland, their home, organized an extravagant procession to honor Lord Ganesha during this year’s festival.

The celebration was infused with the vibrant sounds of dhol tasha and the resplendent traditional attire of participants. Notably, numerous foreign nationals enthusiastically joined the revelry during the procession organized by ‘Glasgow Indians,’ an organization founded by Indians residing in Glasgow. According to the event’s organizers, the procession witnessed an impressive turnout of over 4,000 to 5,000 individuals, including those of Indian origin and Scottish nationals. They proudly proclaimed this as the largest Ganesh festival procession ever held in Britain.

Commencing from Glasgow city’s iconic George Square, the procession traversed through the city streets and culminated at a Hindu temple, where traditional rituals were observed. Scottish nationals also gathered along the procession route, seizing the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Indian culture, a rare experience in their homeland.

The organizers expressed that the primary motivation behind orchestrating this procession was to offer Indians living in Scotland a connection to their homeland and its cultural heritage. Even when residing in foreign lands, the aim is to keep their cherished traditions and culture alive.
