Former Pakistan PM Criticizes Economic Situation, Commends India’s Successes

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, currently residing in exile in London, has raised eyebrows with his recent comments criticizing Pakistan’s economic situation and applauding India’s achievements. In a video address to a party meeting in Lahore, Sharif did not mince his words, blaming Pakistan’s former generals and judges for the country’s economic plight.

Comparing India’s Successes:

Nawaz Sharif questioned why Pakistan, despite its potential, couldn’t achieve milestones like India, specifically mentioning India’s moon mission and hosting the G20 summit. He even went as far as to claim that India had followed the economic reforms initiated during his government in 1990.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s Economic Crisis:

It’s no secret that Pakistan has been grappling with a severe economic crisis for an extended period. The nation has witnessed skyrocketing inflation, rising energy prices, and fuel shortages, all of which have taken a toll on its populace, especially the economically vulnerable.

Nawaz Sharif’s Return and Political Ambitions:

Adding to the political drama, Nawaz Sharif has announced his return to Pakistan on October 21, where he intends to lead his party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), in the upcoming elections. The PML-N has expressed confidence in securing victory in these crucial polls.

Bailout Deal and Accusations:

Pakistan’s economic woes led the country to secure a $3 billion bailout deal from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July. However, amidst these economic challenges, allegations have arisen against the PML-N, with some leaders from the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) accusing the party of conspiring against former allies and fostering closer ties with the powerful military establishment in pursuit of political power.

Nawaz Sharif’s candid comments have undoubtedly stirred the political pot in Pakistan, raising questions about the nation’s economic strategies and aspirations in comparison to its neighboring countries.
